awakening jack - complete

by Kristina Woodhill

carved negative space
orange orb feels probing point
an eye opener

cavity revealed
life is not a stenciled face
thick skin softens scars

honing stone scrapes steel
keen knives keep shaving, shaping
Jack-o-angelo

candy-corn shaped teeth
curved tongue licks crooked set smile
symmetry is mocked

knife painted still life
outside, waiting by the Door
a soul's flickering

What a plumpkin you have chiseled with five blades. Love how this adds more October to a view from my fireplace. Wonderful writing Krstina!

Appears to take in Allhallow's Eve in the last stanza (rather than just ghosts and goblins, etc.)

Thank you for bestowing this October Lantern in my mind!

(thick skin softens scars oh how true!)

...k-gal, more than a carving; a tribute to every carved pumpking into VOILA! a jack o angelo...lantern, a proto-type of man's mysteries...good write.

I will think of your poem whenever I look at another carved pumpkin...

You manage to capture the season and carve out deeper meaning at the same time... bringing smile and wonder all at once. Cool piece, Kristina.
