way out past the satellite.

by Steven Kenworthy

if everyone else was a thieve
i’d have you to believe.

you’re busy though stealing everything i have
you’re taking my breath you’re taking my stomach
you take every second of my day
i haven’t even had time to possess or digest just yet.

you worry me.
you treat me like a space station
i’m so far away but i’m all over the news channels
my repairs are expensive and highlights

like a neon scrape against an old tree
i am something for photographers to remember.

to you maybe i’m the hardest charging pill to get down
to dissolve and move on to your next bite, i’m exciting
when goosebumps are jumping off your arms at me.
i’m exciting when i’m feeling like a natural disaster beneath your pillowcase.
building,

i realize things have changed, my place in line stolen
by the guy with the transparent intentions and the money mind.
i volunteered it, i fought for it back.

i put the entire fire engine on my back.

i tore apart the red metal pieces and the hose
i watered down an entire town and paper mache’d it to look like a ransom
note for my very own life.

you’re not trying to and you’re definitely not advertising it, but.

the benches at the bus stops, the billboard above my headboard
they all say the same things

they all say it’s time for me to eat my telescope
kiss goodbye the star cluster
the silver moon collection
the black hole black dress black heels black eye love

pretty black eyes delivered by a slow train

a series of relentless screaming cars convincing me that crashing is still the only
way.

I love the whole piece, but the author's note absolutely pierces me.

One of the strongest endings I've read in awhile - loved the "black" sequence and the slow train with screaming cars. Frightful. thank you.

This builds and enchants entirely. I was surprised that some metaphors (like the fire truck- a wonderful line) continued and expanded, a very good thing, and yes, a tantalizing finale. Intense and unique. That is my verdict.

Sk I love this, the utter raw emotion of it rips at my heart and makes me bleed real tears. I hope she appreciates it. And the authors note is killer...but by "you" you SHOULD mean you *points at SK*!

Sounds like you're moving on to the next frontier, a whole new universe and tons of possibilities still to discover. It's all out there, you'll see :)

...a masterpiece! for real...there are so many spikes in this one; if you'd promise to stay awake i'll tell you...this is a number three rapid, which gives a current that by-golly will flip you if you don't pay attention...i do mean a strong pome, heavy deeps playful, scary-good, philosphical...5 stars.

This is wonderful and savory to read... Again, a little achy, but in a different way. It just presents this feeling of being stuck on someone; the thoughts that dwell with a reluctance, but also a determination to move on... It's different from what I associate with you, a little shorter and less whimsical, but still distinctly your tongue...

What can I add that's different from the above? I agree with most of what was said above. This does seem different than your other poetry. You know I adore everything you write. This poem is in a league of its own.

You're so special... you know?

Wow, brilliant use of the senses with "constructs" of our everyday lives and interesting use of stellar objects to construct your solar system of hope.
