halloween treats

by Maria Francesca

how wonderful and round he is,
how friendly and disarming
as he sits on my front doorstep
looking innocent and charming:

gaping smile and glowing eyes
to urge small visitors: Come here!
-and they do
without a clue
that they're about to disappear

for the gleam that looks so merry
in my jack-o-lantern's eye
stems from his great love
for eating trick-or-treater pie.

Hi Maria, Ouch. Funny, cute, and little scary too for the kidos. Great write. Tell that pumpkin to only eat a little candy. Not the kidos. :)

Congratulations on winning the contest! This is cute and classic and ghoulish (at the end) and has a very creative twist. Thank you!

I can see why you won first place. This brought a big smile and a chuckle. Just the right tone for this strangest of holidays? seasons? celebrations? (what is the right word?) ... the one where it is just fine to be weird. Should be my favorite day of the year. Thanks for this delight.
