the when

by Charlie Morgan

as everyone's story is a long one,
we shouldn't begin with yours.

let's start with mine, since it's
all about me anyway, saves time.

first there was nothing, then I.
but i wasn't by myself.

then i s'pose things started happening;
planetoids, suns, countless moons.

so when i arrived much was already done;
i merely got in line and followed.

felt good for the first 60 years or so;
now i need to get off this perch, stretch.

much to do with this new perspective;
everything is lower, newer heights.

it should all slow down pretty soon,
and let me be alone again.

Edgy, this, and sad too. But the sadness doesn't necessarily soften the sharp points of it. You. And your precipice.

I got a chuckle out of the second stanza - so Charlie. Then as I read, I kept thinking about the Greek gods and the way they mixed tragedy and awe. I think I understand something about the perspective thing. Sometimes it feels as if I am an observer - not a detached one but a connected one. It occurs to me that the way you slow down is in your writing. It is always a solitary, alone, activity. One last thing. One of the many things I like about you, Charlie, is your tongue-in-cheek admission that it is "all about Charlie." At least your tongue is in your cheek. Some of us are not nearly as honest and upfront about it. Sooooo... I will say it... after all, it is not all about Charlie, but it is all about Glenn. :-)

this piece has you all over it, you are the cosmos in which this poem is written, subject, narrator, and author...and I LOVE how time and space folds on themselves within this piece, all of time captured in 8 couplets...kudos!

have to agree, this is uniquely you, have I told you how much I love your perspective on things?
