The I

by Tony Whitaker

All march time on those shifting sands
soon pulled to Dante’s doom.

Lives we live and love and lose
as we fall to glabrous gloom.

But have I left a legacy,
where I did satisfy?

Did I do my best to best the test,
or just complete a sentence when I die?

But your facile ways did pave a way,
made more of this world of mine.

And there is no “we” in “I Love You”,
since this sumpsimus needs the “I”.

Author's Note: To say "I love you" one must first be able to say the "I." -Ayn Rand

I like this one, very well put together, it really made me think (And I learned a new word:P)

Very thought-provoking and multidimensional. I see a reflection on the meaning of a life AND on the meanings of life. That's two levels. Then there's the whole thang (as we say in Texas) about being an "I" without the "thou" and whether that is possible or desirable. No, no, not one dimensional, profound and relevant - at least to this I. Thanks for thou.
