vampires are not worms

by Kristina Woodhill

vampires are not worms
i've never seen them squirm
with bits of sand - a sugar
coating from the struggle
forced up-top by sprinkled
waters in the night

vampires are not worms
vampires' arms can spin a turn
in a flash of moonlit "ping!"
flap two black and claw-tipped wings,
while worms can't even
roll safe out of sight

vampires are not worms
sexy sly - their glances yearn
for lively pulsing necks outstretched
another notch in coffins etched;
while worms are happy buried,
flotsam munched in tiny bites

worm, i've picked you up
and tossed you
into wet grass
from black pavement
drying, drying, drying
in this midday hot egg-frying
moment;
did you think
that you could simply
up and fly away!

Much more empathy for worms and wormsavers than vampires. I know there has to be some deeper reason for the vampire rage, but I have missed it. Oh well, one can't focus on everything. I especially like the final act of mercy.

Protect all things living or not as you are able. Worms serve a purpose as you gardeners know. Now vampires? Well give them a break it is really hard to sleep well during the day. Just as anyone that has worked the night shift.

It's good to be nice to worms...else they'er clan will pay us back one day. I imagine, to a garden dirt and worms are as caviar and toast-points to the nouveau-riche...Thanks.

Maybe that's why Hollywood makes more films on vampires? Though worms are also in the running, I don't think they still match even the dinosaurs! A lovely write.

Fascinating comparison! I've often wondered why worms crawl out on pavement or asphalt to be "cooked" by the sun! As to vampires, they seem an adult extension of fairy tales!

Hmmm vampires are predators of flesh and soul, and worms are well worms. It would be interesting to know who is the vampire and who is the worm

I usually wait until the worm has turned -- most people like them soggy-side-up...

I'd laugh, but for the dyspepsia.
