Vertigo

by Glenn Currier

Crystals accelerating
early in the vestibule
in tiny semicircles
bump into the hairy sky
alerting her
acrobatic self
to slow down
plant her toes
in the ground
and empty agendas.

Meanwhile in the kitchen
interrupted
from my obsessions
I convince myself
not to grumble
open a can of soup
pop bread in toaster
and rediscover
in health AND sickness
our marriage vows.

Seeking again,
between life and love,
the elusive fluid
of balance.

Author's Note: My poor wife was stricken with this condition four days ago. Hoping for relief sooner rather than later.

"balance" -- that word means a lot here...I hope for a speedy recovery as well (and am struck by having heard of so many lately suffering from this condition...)

I guess that is one of the things we learn to do over the years. We seem to take care of each other what ever else goes on. Good write.

My room has spun before and I have thought myself possessed when the ground would come to meet me tilted because the rocks in ears where a little off...I empathize wholly with you and she and hope both of you find balance quickly. smh

I've never had it, but I've known some that have. It did inspire a lovely remembrance and verse. Really enjoyed how you tied the liquid of balance in her ears to the soup.

You catch the need for balance in life with simplicity and love. Pray that your wife will very soon be well!

Oh, vertigo is awful. I like how you described it in that first stanza. Nice tie ins to in sickness and in health, and especially the "elusive liquid of balance".
