Skulking

by Glenn Currier

My ego is stamping its feet
skulking pouting
pointing accusing
you add your ing.

Why can’t her mood
match mine?
I am so good
and cool and peaceful
don’t you know?

I just won’t go
you bring the salad
she says with drama
and defeat in her voice.
I rehearse my anger.

Do what you must
we’ll eat without you
just stay home and sulk.
The lettuce and tomatoes
will taste just as good.

Why did I have to question
her judgment on the dressing
fearing it was too old?
Dressing doesn’t spoil
for a fight like salty egos.

Author's Note: Another testament to the therapeutic efficacy of writing poetry... we made up and went to the potluck together.

The time for action is past! Now is the time for senseless bickering! I was always the one wearing the pie, she had a great arm!

Yes, writing is therapeutic, a way of talking out, a method for applying logic as writing emanates from intellectual center, the room of the self we identify as 'us'. Else, we know, 'I' is the center of our universe and is beyond logic when driven by emotional energies with a negative charge, generated by a hurt ego. Yes, 'why did I have to question...', a question against a question helps. Weak intellectual energies is what all we have to neutralize the negatively charged emotional drive.

I guess I particularly love this because I can relate to it so well. It got me laughing too, for sure. I love your way and play with words and your poem has made my day!

...and he saw his enemies like unto himself and he learned love; then, he was answered.

Well, the word "skulking" is too fun to say and think about. I love the quiet sarcasm of S2, and those perfect last two lines. Thanks!
