Emerald Soul

by Glenn Currier

In the spring of her life
an anchor from the heavens
on a golden chain
hooked into her soul
still lodged there

arching across oceans
to Calcutta, Virgo planets
volumes of constellations
where Jesus and Buddha live
and Rosicrucians mystify.

Her lithe body
honed at the barre
and company tours
alive in the waves
glad for the saves.

Her mind
in persistent pirouette
and miraculous course
from isle of Silva
to writing’s source.

Her maneges linked
lovers and children
convocations and Krishna
gurus and priests
pas de deux from the east.

Partner in peace
spirit’s release
iridescent meditation
universal whole
an emerald soul.

Your summary in the final strophe is really nice, Glenn. "Partner in peace spirit’s release/ iridescent meditation/universal whole/an emerald soul." Her life seem like it is always the shiny cradle of the next one, but then, such is love, the Mystic Flower of the Soul. This is the Center, the Self. Thanks.

Any ballerina would, I'm sure, be proud to be recognized this way. Any woman, for that matter. You paint such an exquisite portrait of a woman.

I like the flow to this very much, the details that give us a sense of where she has been and the import of those places. I, too, love that last stanza. This is smooth as silk, Glenn. Thank you.

I love the movement of this poem. I also enjoy the technical aspect of winding the astrophic rhythm of stanzas 1,2 and 4 and the homostrophics of 3,5 and 6. Wonderful Glenn.

Beautiful dedication that has me echoing Alison's comment! It's so amazing to me how poetry has the potential of adding concrete imagery to ethereal and ethereal imagery to concrete. What a statue of grace your words chisel here.
