The Beasts Who Wronged Me

by Melissa Arel

I could wish every curse onto
the beasts who wronged me
That their injustice would come back
upon them in ten-fold consequence

I could recount every misdeed
record every hurt
retell every tale of evil

Instead, I choose to forgive
the beasts who wronged me

To remove their poisonous darts
imbedded within my heart
and replace that venom with love

I shed their malice like a coat of skin
and step into the sunlight
choosing the path of peace instead of hate

Author's Note: * Choosing to forgive someone is much more difficult than holding onto a grudge. I am no exception from this struggle. I have forgiven many, but still find it hard to forgive others. May God open my heart to allow His healing. *

Well put Melissa. And those who pursue a beastly path will find it eventually bites them on the nose; i.e. what goes around comes around.

Wonderful, wonderful words of great wisdom.Your poem demonstrates the best choices a human can ever make. And again, it is well expressed. Thank you for sharing.

your heart is larger than mine...although I try to live by these words more than ever. Very thoughtful words, Mel

I'm caught somewhere in between your preferred choice of action here you see I don't hate the beasts nor do I love them with peace, No, I usually end up F*&king the beasts who wrong me! Good job.

Anyone who's been bullied and trod upon by the beasts can immediately empathize with the first verses of this well writ keeper.

...the continuing part is difficult, nearly impossible to attain. It may take a lifetime. It wasn't until someone personally bestowed grace upon me that I clearly did not deserve -that I understood pure forgiveness. And wanted to be a giver of forgiveness as well as its recipient.

How can any of us give grace unless we have experienced it firsthand? Good poem.

This really is what it is all about.... it is a difficult thing to do. You expressed it perfectly!
