NURSES' PURSES

by Gregory R Schelske

Nurses' purses, bags 'n’ such
hold way more than very much
and very much is quite a bit
for all the things a nurse must fit
into her purse, bag 'n’ such.

Nurses' purses, so you know
hold much more than they will show
and what they show is just a bit
of all the things they can fit,
those nurses'’purses, bags 'n’ such.

Kidney grinders and stethoscopes,
brain unfreezers and sterile soaps
heart'o’ meters and tummy pumps,
kidney clamps and things for bumps
tiny hammers for your knees
bubblegum and wheelchair grease,
little lights for your ears
and rubber gloves for our rears
cotton balls and cotton tips,
cotton swabs with cotton grips
paper robes with rearview gaps
paper shoes and paper hats
jelly oils and smelly oils,
belly oils and deli oils
prescription pads with lots of notes
popsicle sticks for our throats,
intestine cleaners and spinal taps
tonsil takers and body maps
blood soaker-uppers
and mood taker-downers,
blankets for the patients
and chairs for out-of-towners
lung-unpluggers and eyeball things,
six inch needles with six inch stings
suction cups and ribcage poppers,
I.V. fluids and sneezing stoppers.

If nurses'’purses, bags 'n’ such
hold way more than very much
and very much is quite a bit
then quite a bit would never fit.…

Or would it?
