garden fresh

by Kristina Woodhill

watermelonting
in my mouth
red juicing squish
'tween tongue and teeth
season's first
knife-splitting crack!
my chin the dripping
shelf beneath

Of watermelon, Mark Twain said, "When one has tasted watermelon he knows what the angels eat." 'Tis true, 'tis true!

Amen indeed. What's summer without watermelon??? We just had some the other night in fact. Excellent description in the brevity of this piece also. :o)
