hum of life is death by Charlie Morgana systolic heart on the downbeat;
empties a life force, yet again.
cup by cup we replenish ourselves.
a diastolic morning fills with
itself, offering possibilites.
how many loves begin, end?
skinned knees bandaged?
boo boos kissed, prom nights?
dreams drifting on Zephyrus' wind?
how many unneeded childhood deaths today?
hundreds? thousands? too many!
a child dies a crib death, he's 88.
another crib death; one, a 1 year old.
cup by cup we fill death's coffers. 07/10/2009 Posted on 07/10/2009 Copyright © 2026 Charlie Morgan

Posted by Morgan D Hafele on 07/11/09 at 04:44 AM i like this chaz, but i must say that i hope i'm filling death's coffers before i find myself in a crib again... i guess i'll just have to see what the loved ones want. haha
Posted by Alison McKenzie on 07/11/09 at 05:44 AM I guess it is a cycle. You sure do write a bit about it.

Posted by Glenn Currier on 07/11/09 at 09:41 PM I love the contrasts in the poem - the juxtaposition of life and death... that death is not necessarily for the old... that it can be one or two heartbeats from each of us. Jean's has been especially on my mind the last few days - how she filled our cups - gave us life. Blessings to you dear brother - and to your heart.
