Sunrise

by Leonard M Hawkes

Consciously watching—
Broad, gold, red,
Gloriously morning-fresh,
Rising up from the flat horizon
Of the Colorado plains—

Like Phaethon,
I sense our kinship
And would sail with you
Until you sink below
The western snowy peaks.

But earthbound,
Turn my back
And walk the second
Stressful, well-lit
Up-hill mile.

Vivid and inviting...places a perfect picture in my mind. Nicely written.

A wonderfully constructed piece that truly shines. Captivating.

an enchanting poem. you could as easily be talking about a woman, which more often than not is indistinguishable from a sunrise. congratulations on POTD.

A fine POTD! You continue to connect me with the wonder of nature.
