Media or Life?

by Glenn Currier

The call of electron voices
caffeine directly injected
into my veins explodes
titillating red and righteous
corpuscles coursing feeding
masquerading as life.

I listen to ward off the cheetahs
leaping up from their pit
from the dark desert
where they screech and reach
clawing the walls
of my unconscious
they lap up the blood
bright red and fresh
lick their pinked chops
with glistening glee
as if it will give them life.

Heheh. Definitely accurately captured here! (while I write on the addictive and deadening effects of too much relationship seeking...LOL)

they, whomever they are, once upon a time decided to exclude nature from our lives and as consolation offered us media in its stead, which is not to be mistaken for Life. as if media could in any way shape or form replace the nature which once upon a time fed our souls and our lives, the very nature which fed Keats's soul and quill, which resulted in those magnificent nature driven poems of his. and I suppose is the reason I love his poetry so much, because it is still resplendent with the stuff of nature and life and not media. as usual, your poetry Glenn, is like an alarm clock, a reminder for all of us to wake up and get back to nature and leave all this asphalt of media behind.

I love it. It reminds me of a more "in your face" version of Dahl's poem "Television." I love the cross reference between man and animal.
