classic blue

by Kristina Woodhill

i chose classic blue for this eager month of may
a pretty blue, a soft blue, cool spring display
    wispy white cat clouds
       hissing here
    mouse chasing there
  hints of girls in swings,
     streaming long horsetail hair

i chose classic blue for a lighter, brighter take
in a month with a slingshot view to june's first hot, hot bake
and having chosen carefully the color fit for may
poetic pieces, words and thoughts then took a holiday

the phrase "ruffled tulips" up and hiked out to the pond
where tulip toes were dipping crimson nails and nudging fronds;
completed thoughts like "apricots profusely blooming" stuck,
        wedged between
   "cute goslings!"
        and "soft striped hatchling ducks!"

just a mess of scrambling letters
               on the loose
                     like some spring break
with april in a tizzy after all the plans it laid;
something in the rain that poured, a tipsy champaign potion
up-setting any semblance of recording any notion

may's birch bark is still
          a blank white sheet
flip flops are sideways, still
                     feeling for bare feet
colors are too busy, still
           racing with spring rainbows
leaving nouns completely,
        adjectivally afloat

it's a mad, glad stream of consciousness
            words rushing with the sea
        submerged in urges classic blue
and who's to blame, but me

AH! Love the playfulness of the words and sounds...as I'm bouncing in my seat reading it! It would take me all day to point out the interesting word combinations and internal/external rhymes coupled with beats...I just love it...

These are the times of perfect near-summer, the fulfillment of the promise of the earlier months, and I see in those blues no sign at all to remind one that its fresh young beauty will ever, ever fade. Beautiful, Kris. Thanks.

I love your blue
it befits you
and am swooping into your flight-lilting poem-swilking mind-tilting

scrambling letters
               on the loose
