Strange songs by Vrinda AgrawalYou can sing
you sing for us
strange songs
But the songs I listen to now, those men aren’t you
they don’t have your voice
they don’t tell me anything
they sing about their lives
but
they don’t ask me for anything
When I sing with them
they don’t hear my voice
either
They don’t expect anything from me
They don’t ask
For love.

Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 09/25/09 at 09:48 PM Strange songs, indeed. I like how some sing but do not listen, and I like how the songs become a substitute in my mind for words and communication in general. Songs to me have more lasting strength than words said once, and that element gives this poem more power for me. |
