we lifted

by Scott Cadence

Having witnessed
the laborious mapping
for the center
of our adjacent areas,
unstinted was your offer
to help me hoist the frame
up to eye level.

Pressed against the wall
our faces
were full of simper
as we came into vision,
satisfaction seemed
immutable over the clamor
of our doubts
in a new perspective
of each other.

In awe
I believe
we both were
with the pivot
we used to gain steady ground,
and would use again
in an effort to not be charged
with walking.

Come
as it does,
when I want to thrash
and burn down this place,
I often catch us
in peripheral vision
in that recursive reflection
that made us call off
the maraud
for our intentionally
misplaced singleness,

and in that instant
I understand what happens
with the underpinnings
on the ocean floor,
the cooling
of the earths molten insides
as it spews out,
I am given intrinsic shape
as I move through the abstraction
of what we saw together
when we lifted the mirror,
and I smolder
no longer.

there are wide ranging rhythms here tempting a coterie of long subdued emotions to rhythm along.

Strong subtle revelations here and that last stanza is dynamite. After watching a program on volcanoes in Hawaii, lava meeting sea, and such, this has much greater visual impact.
