Fountain of Youth

by Maude Curtis

I think I've found the "Fountain of Youth",
Not in Florida, but here in my heart.
But first let me tell you a story.
Let's see, just where do I start?

I guess it began with an email
from a "find your lost friends" web site.
He saw my name and wrote to say Hi.
Who knew that the timing was right.

Did I dare to test those waters?
I sent back a short reply,
"So good to hear from you again.
Sometime wont you call or come by?"

We exchanged emails and numbers,
then he said he'd written a poem
about this young girl he once knew,
so very long ago back home.

If I wanted to I could read it
On this site called "Pathetic. Org"
It was simply titled "She Was"
and he hoped that I wouldn't be bored.

So I logged on your unique web site
and scanned thru the list for his name.
I read the beautiful words he wrote
about his old high school flame.

Before I finished the first stanza
I knew that the poem was for me.
By the time I got to the last line,
my tears flowed so, I barely could see.

So I wrote him back a short email.
Said his love poem had made me cry,
I thought that I was the only one
that was crushed when we said goodbye.

I asked him to call me sometime,
It'd be nice to hear his voice.
I gave him my telephone number and said
He could call any time of his choice.

To my surprise he called the next day
and we talked far into the night.
It was like the years had melted away
and once more my world was made right.

Those hours have turned into days
and the days into weeks and more,
seems that we can't find enough time.
to relive those days of yore.

We've realized that we haven't forgotten
the strong love that we once shared.
Before we both were so foolish.
Broke each others heart, when tempers flared.

I feel like I'm seventeen again,
although that year has long past.
Once more I have found my one love
and I know this time it will last.

I catch myself smiling for no reason.
I enjoy the smallest of things.
There's always a song in my heart.
And I could soar as if I had wings.

So the "Fountain of Youth's" not in Florida,
"Cause I've found it's right here in my heart.
My true love and I are together again.
Nevermore will we be apart.

pardon me Maude, if I shed my own tear or two for I feel these words to the core, all the more because they venture beyond discovery to that marvelous place in the heart where reside two people in love.
