Intoxication

by George Hoerner

my brain intoxicated with life
shall never sober
for, presented with strife
i’ll stay drunk January to October

November and December
have holidays to remember
so i’ll lighten up
not fill my cup

partake of societies graces
cover all my bases
sober up enough to know
in winter there is really snow
and then at year end

Janus comes knocking
at front and back
asking for direction

i’ll take my breath deep
hope for a good sleep
tomorrow i fill my cup again
let life’s intoxication stake a claim

on my soul and leave me
floundering in the world i see

Hey George, I'm loving the narrator's point of view of this. An unexpected action/reaction...like doing the opposite of everything...and I (IMHO) think you are on to something wonderfully philosophic, deeper than its surface indeed. Thanks.

...george, a kingly double entendre of intoxicating...cool and i agree w/ greg...but even at face-level, it says a lot...

I'll drink to that, George!

if I were e'er in need to fill my cup to the brim and sip not quaff its elegance, then your cup is as good as any to beginning to commencing that elegant sipping.

Really loved this one!The last 2 stanzas are outstanding! I would say "I'll dronk to that...but I don't drink LOL!) wonderful write and very enjoyable read!

You had my mind flipping about trying not to fall into the usual beer-soaked meaning. But the flips were fun and I love the life-embrace with the punctuation of the holidays that sometimes send us to the liquid variety. Clever and thought-provoking, George. Thanks.
