Calm Down

by George Hoerner

the world will meet its demise
like your hard drive
it's not if but when
probably not overnight

evolution like revolution
can take a while
and your hard drive
gives indications of when
it is nearing failure
like a little grinding sound
some hesitation when searching
for requested data

as the universe continues
to expand and change
investigation brings into question
things we have yet to understand

while man has evolved
not in a uniform way
but slowly as in
two steps forward
one step back
the universe seems to be expanding
in a manner our best brains
have yet to codify

in fact it appears
that the more we know
the less we can explain
and the term evolution
may or may not apply
to the universe

if evolution and reincarnation
tell us anything
it's that time is a poor
measure of existence
and mans mind
is sparsely equipped
to understand or control
our little piece of this thing
we call existence

George, the more I familiarize myself with this expanding and evolving universe, the more it appears to me, a stranger, so much so, that I could, as Blanche Du Bois rely on its kindness.

An acutely philosophical poet pours a poem into this vastness [called earth] that surpasses all ordinary intuit understanding. And has done so with grace.

I do believe you have nailed it with that last stanza.

The last stanza states quite nicely how insignificant our existence can be compared to rest of the universe.

Well done this observation of yours, waxing philosophical in poetic form the existence of man perhaps is to question and the ripple effect of the pebble dropped will form the rings....smh

I like this a lot, letting go of our control-freak delusions of power, which is certainly fostered by modern technologies, is somehow reassuring and calming - very well written too. One of my teachers used to say, "The more you know the more you know you don't know."
