Evening and Morning

by George Hoerner

the still evening sky

not yet asleep

spills its last

burst of energy

over the ridge

and into the valley

with magical shades

of orange pink

laced with wispy white

a background of blue

and then almost

without warning

having been unable

to establish power

during the day

the evening ends

by falling into the ocean

giving up its ghost

to the night

in hopes that

the sun rising tomorrow

will provide

what unkind man has

not the will to tackle

Well painted, "word-wise" George. "Falling into the ocean" is terrific...sounds so accidental! Delighted. Thanks.

What a wonderful picture you've painted. So easy to become surrounded by it all.

It's a cliche to commend a writer for being able to say so much with so few words, but I'm going to say it anyway.

A fine smooth flow to this image, like a sunset unveiling moment to moment. This has an intriguing ending - a challenge, I believe?

all I know is that nature has one hell of a spokesman in you, George. you paint it so like an impressionist and at the same time employing the palette of an existentialist.
