Cold

by George Hoerner

it's cold and snowy
chilling to the bone

feelings freeze
before they reach
the surface

but I bought a christmas
tree today –

yesterday was Christmas
even trees die
if they have
lost their
usefulness

...same with people, same with people george...john prine sang a song in the 70s called Hello In There and it spoke to the concept of ageism ergo usefulness[in our society]...a sad lament but a lovely way of saying so much re: a christmas tree...heavy.

Absolutely. Well stated.

A neat combination of season and emotion George, with a nice touch of madness, well intentioned in buying the tree after Christmas. Thanks also for your comment on New Blood! :o)

when life, such as trees succumb to our artifice, it is we who have lost our usefulness and not the trees and certainly this poem being it is of much use to me shall ne'er be extracted from my heart.
