a box of surprises

by Charlie Morgan

the mailman dropped off my mail;
i sifted through it. one thing.

i have a package of Tomorrows;
the ribbon says "Open Everyday."

the box says: guaranteed no gray or rainy days;
a boy made of sunshine-surprise makes my tomorrows.

so, i better forward it to megrandson Kai,
who has a thousand or so Saturdays left.

Problem is, you don't appreciate stuff like that until you know better, right? Great work.

To leave a legacy of a life well lived, loved and laughed through is the best tomorrow you can leave to your children. Yah, we've got craptastic woes with the economy, politics and world grief; but let the news keep track of those things. Pass along sunshine and hope. I applaude you!!! Hugs, ~N

Yesterday's history, tomorrow's a mystery, today is a gift...that's why we call it the present......OK, I embroidered it on a pillow, but it still makes me smile...just like your joint. Thank you, Phillip! LK

I think you might outta keep it for a bit. You're not out of days, and Kai will appreciate it more later on. Love to you, Mr. Morgan.

Congratulations on POTD. I am glad I saw it on my quick visit to these pages yesterday. What I love about this poem and so many of your others is the way Kai brings out the little Charlie within you, man. It is an absolute delight. Thanks for this and for your irrepressible gift. Happy New Year, buddy.

I love this poem, it made my day.

I thinks it's the right choice to pass these things on. Life is a series of surprises, and would not be worth taking or keeping, if it were not. Seems God delights to isolate us every day, and hide from us the past and the future. But, whenever I do meet with anything agreeable in this world it surprises me so much—and pleases me so much (when my passions are not interested in one way or the other) that I go on wondering for a week to come. Wonderfully written. Thanks.
