a nation of dogs by Charlie Morgani stroke a nation of dogs when i rub Odie's nape;
Chihuahua's in Chihuahua; Labrador's from England.
and that's recess. a break from the daily grind.
a Zen moment with a cousin who has four legs.
his tail wags a smile at me, such antsy adulation
wagging his entire lil' frame, i bend for the crowning.
after the minute's ceremony, life continues; him
sprawled on the carpet beside me, me typing words.
both of us attending to things of great consequence;
he chews to-death a rubber toy, i write to-death words.
soon his toy will be a memory; soon, my words but print.

| Posted by George Hoerner on 11/16/08 at 12:48 AM I love the phrase 'I write to death words'. It reminds of the phrase 'till death do us part'. Good write Charlie. |

| Posted by Olivia Martin on 11/18/08 at 03:20 AM Ah the beauty of man's (or woman's) greatest companions -- "soon his toy will be a memory; soon, my words but print." Amazing. You never fail to keep me coming back for more, Charlie. Thank you for the inspiration! |
