Boardwalk contest entry

by Kristina Woodhill

Inspired by Boardwalk

Long centuries, wise Rumi,
Since you slipped between the planks
Walked your steady walk
Into Beloved's waiting pool.

The path that seems
To me to end in drowning death,
To you was but a step
Into a welcoming
Engulf.

I stand above and stare -
I paint these planks so bare.

My clouded eyes
Pretend a surface tension,
Algae clogged;
"The sun," I hedge,
"has done its work
and forced the blooming
skin -

there's surely no way in!"

The bubbles from your laughter
Send small rippled
Joyful burps;
Perceptively
You smile
And flick cool water drops
Aloft

Dispersing
Clarity as droplets meet
The kissing sun,
Duality it's plaything,
Harsh to
Soft.

My toes tip at the edge
And there they falter,
Rocking back

Mocking me
They seek and snag
Protruding crookneck nails;

A coward, my step fails,

Holding Love at bay
Holding Love at bay

Your push reveals the way.

Very lyrical and lovely. It has almost a fairy tale quality it.

This is a beautifully crafted poem that touches deeply on the subject of a man's passion and the response, as a listener attends to a meaningful poem. This must be wonderful when read aloud too.

A wonderfully sentimental and poignant look at what once was, and with time, is no more except in haunting memory.

What a read, I love the fourth stanza, the use of dual meanings very fitting here. Perfection. Marked a fav.

Beautifully written. Loved this... "Dispersing Clarity as droplets meet The kissing sun, Duality it's plaything, Harsh to Soft." Congrats on POTD

Kristina, this is exquisite - no wonder it was one of the contest winners. The imagery, the subtle rhyme, the homage to Rumi - it all works perfectly. A well-deserved POTD.... d:-)
