Speaking in Tongues by Paul LittleSpeaking in Tongues
I must be speaking in tongues
As you don’t seem to understand
Exactly what I’m saying
(You’re not listening)
I’m repeating my words
Exchanging them for others
Desperate to be understood
(You’re not listening)
I’m waving my arms to gesture
Using the sign language of mad men
Trying to catch your full attention
(You’re not listening)
I’m raising my voice louder and louder
But it’s like I’m screaming in a vacuum
Because you don’t seem to be hearing me

Posted by Cole Miller on 08/31/13 at 12:55 AM this read beautifully in my mind, the parenthesized words whispering out to me before i'd even finished the stanza before them. how i've felt this way numerous times. thank you for posting this piece. |
Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 11/24/14 at 01:27 PM sometimes I wonder if any of us are really listening and if it is not so much a matter of speaking in tongues that we are not doing so but rather owing to a preoccupation with other sorts that our of sheer self preservation cannot help but shut down the ear. congratulation on POTD. |
