Disappearing Stars

by Melissa Arel

hearing the sudden cracklepops
causes my skin to flinch in surprise;
the fiery colors bursting in the night
sparkle in my son's eyes as he watches
the magic unfold with sizzling anticipation.
every shade of rainbow showers down upon us
and he is captured by the wonder and perfection
of a brightly lit sky shimmering with disappearing stars.

Author's Note: we watched some fireworks tonight with our son, Jacob. this is the first year he wasn't deathly afraid of them ;) it was really wonderful to see him enjoy it.

sounds like you got to see the wonder through his eyes and that is a view worth seeing. smh
