this morning is every morning by Charlie Morganthe sheet of heat was rising
as was all cold-blooded fauna;
i dressed in the day's gloom
of worries: will it be today?
warm-blooded, i am my own heat;
the day puts on its Type A suit,
the gray one with pin stripes.
the suit which answers to "yes!"
trades too! one bent soul for
your next quick-money scheme.
been bartering our soul forever;
there's no winner at the table.
a ride to the cemetary of life
can offer one a glowing vista
with no brass rings to grab,
no porcelain dolls or clowns. 07/07/2008 Posted on 07/07/2008 Copyright © 2026 Charlie Morgan

Posted by Glenn Currier on 07/07/08 at 08:05 PM "warm-blooded, i am my own heat" - damn I wish I would have thunk a that. I like the contrast with cold blooded fauna. I can relate - except for the gray suit. Haven't had one that fits in years. You convey the heavy heated feeling so well Chaz.

Posted by A. Paige White on 07/11/08 at 06:07 PM Wow Chaz. I loved the first two lines being quite the fan of amphibians and definitely on the rise. This is a shadowy piece but there's a thread of hope shining in it... Interesting stuff sweet thang! And you're at #1 with it on this fabulous Friday (my last day at work before a week's vacation in the lovely Floriday!) Congrats on rising to #1! Over and out, Charlie, Delta. ;-D don't mind me, I'm just delirious
Posted by Laurie Blum on 07/14/08 at 12:27 AM Mr. Chaz... you have such a way with words. You make me want to re-read your poems over and over.
Posted by Steven Kenworthy on 07/14/08 at 12:38 AM absolute poetry. your works stick out to me as some of the purest art on the site. i'd highlight detail, but the bigger picture is clinging to me right now.
Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 07/15/08 at 12:52 AM I've really been enjoying re-reading this one, which certainly says something about its staying power. Lots going on in this one - "Type A suit," "bartering our soul forever", and a masterful last stanza. I also like the unanswered question in the first stanza. Well done.
