chemical imbalance by Mary Frances Spencerfirst and third worlds
pop the pills
bitter toxic
exploitation
outsourced services
swallow resources
hock
unsafe
multi hormonal
consumerism
as global warming
stirs ozone layers
true bipolar disorders
are brewing
so which prescription
is
right
or left
tomorrow
yesterday
open
the medicine cabinet
and choose

Author's Note: I'm noticing the contrasting worlds we live in, makes me frustrated yet feeling overwhelmed. Not sure if this piece is done yet...there may be more yet to come...feedback? MFS

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 06/04/08 at 03:20 PM The message I get from between the lines here is the ol' conundrum of treating the symptom rather than the cause. Thought provoking piece Mary that bears much weight in any time period but especially today as it seems everything leads to cancer now. |
Posted by Kyle Anne Kish on 06/06/08 at 05:28 AM You thought this poem out beautifully. Today is the day I look in my medicine cabinet and go "so which prescription
is
right
or left
tomorrow
yesterday." So true. Great poem. |
