A song came on the radio today
One of those ‘this is our song’
Kind of moments
and for the first
Time in a long time
my heart warmed
To the idea
of our "groovy kind of love"
A smile cracked
across my aging face
Showing all the laugh lines
I earned sharing
countless you had to be there
Inside jokes in our own
shorthand communication
Developed by two souls
who had stumbled
Upon one another
by happenstance

For surely it was
not circumstance
When in heart speak
our voices instantly
recognized the other
Though we have
been adversarial
Struggling with
our own mortality
Growing in
different directions
Never have I
lost sight of our true
Relationship
that of soul mates
For it is not always
that one soul

and understands
How connected
we may be from
