To Write Love On Her Arms

by Melissa Arel

Silver blades slice open the skin and the soul
They carve out painful secrets for all the world to see
[To remember] In flesh and permanent scars
Hidden beneath a cover of cotton
The manifestation of misery deepens with every cut

I want to hold my hand to the open wound
To be the cure and the healing -
To write love on her arms instead of death
And to offer faith instead of hopelessness.

Leave it as it is, Mel...it is deep and powerful as it stands...and it doesn't surprise it came from your heart and pen
