staring at you when you breathe asleep

by Steven Kenworthy

i thought about kissing you for breakfast
i thought about how
is it thinking or acting or thinking that has brought me
here
right here
to be in a position to be thinking about
kissing you for breakfast, wrapped you

your sleepy grin beaming

i'Â’ll tell you love,
last night i dreamt with the gates
to steer the ship more straight
thomas teased about my hands,
the struggle to scrape off the dirt
you find a way to glow beneath

and when i asked Him to take us both

in seeing more than one set of footsteps
perhaps three it lays there obvious
we need to carefully fix the thing to sing
& walk, sometimes run, sometimes fly

in the morning my palms across your skin
making a small sound
for breakfast
your sleepy grin beaming
ten years forty,
"a thousand years from now
i wonder if they'll wonder how the world looked
to you & me"

your eyes are more warm. have the islands
rearranged? in sleepwear in the hot sea

dreams lie well awake sandy eyes say
"i love you & that just can't change".

Sweet love for breakfast, a great way to start every day! You illustrate the emotions so eloquently with this poem SK.

This poem is beautiful. These are things that everyone wants to feel but are so scared to admit to that kind of vulenrablity.

I have enjoyed reading this again and again over the past few days. Many, many fine lines here. Thank you!!

I love the tenderness of the relationship when one is awake and one lies peacefully asleep, that moment when all is still possible, you have captured it well and I am captivated by you words. smh

I'm LOVING "kissing you for breakfast" a softly sensual sentiment. This is delicious!

A truly memorable romantically charged piece of writing SK. One of those timeless poems that will be read, related to...and enjoyed centuries from now. This stanza particulary stole my heart: in the morning my palms across your skin making a small sound for breakfast your sleepy grin beaming ten years forty, “a thousand years from now i wonder if they’ll wonder how the world looked to you & me”

my original comment "i want to feel this way about another human being" might come off as too vague a response, what i meant to say was that i want to be affected by a person in such a way that generates the ability to describe them (us) in words as delicate and true as these. you nailed it. no pun intended. great work; as per usual.

imo, those first two stanzas are a perfect description of love...including the title. "Is it thinking or acting or thinking that has brought me here..." and so it goes with love, never understanding it, always questioning it, somehow, though, we just know it. Thanks for brightening the day.
