Tea Party

by Maria Terezia Ferencz

I am
still a child
inside
playing dress up
serving tea
in the company of men
I am
still afraid
inside
playing adulthood
serving security
in the company of children
I am still
afraid inside
never
having tea
sweetened with innocence

There are so many countries where having tea is a special ceremony, or a bonding experience. I like how this bridges circumstances, and in an imaginative moment I see in the shapes of this poem three upside down cups, emptied of their comments that please me. Thank you.

A lot under the surface, obviously. Beautifully captured.

... and yet the sweet innocence is there, in the candid voice of this beautiful poem ... it can be savoured in each revealing line ... lovelight&peace ... *m.a

Subtle yet power expression of sexual harassment. I like how it takes into account that pain and fear continue into adulthood. + favourites.
