The accompaniment

by Kristina Woodhill

the howl
has died down
for now

my eyes
are emptied
once again

yet, i do see
how this cycle

spins
and plays

its
slow

motion

melody

always ending
in the dirge

i am
the accompaniment

until my keys, too

have been
dampened

then stilled

Kristina, being familiar with those keys, this poem is doubly evocative to me. Until I read this I never thought of how my own approach to relationship is mirrored in the music. I never was good at accompaniment because I so struggled with with my own ineptitude I couldn't get my self together enough to match the songs of others. Thanks for this exquisite etude.

Mmmm.... the solitude of the accompaniest... well said, well described.

Very vivid images here and good food for thought. Excellently written!
