The Path

by Don Matley

Found by accident
Taken on purpose
Wandered off and lost it
Only to find it again
Discovered remnants of old
Mica mines beneath my feet
Scheduled for someone's fold-down toaster
Now obsolete
Civilization amidst turning trees
And their shimmering dance of leaves
The sheer beauty of it all
This silence of solitude

I love the images here, especially in the middle of your poem, so specific and unique like "mica mines" and "fold-down toaster." Great poem!

Reminds me of a spot in a nearby State Park that I frequently hike in. Also containing an old mica mine that some still turn over the ground in search of other things. Very nicely said!

Thought provoking piece Don. Congrats on POTD! My parents still have one of those fold down toasters as a keep sake from when they were first married, and it still works!

This has a great flow and I love the "mica mines beneath my feet." Now I want to see that fold-down toaster. Congrats on POTD!

Your poem gives me the sense of walking that path-lovely, subtle, well-crafted. Thank you!
