The Comfort of Living by David R Spellman
The comfort of living
at the expense
of being
too comfortable
too complacent
too commonplace
to consider
the consequence
of commercialized
consumption;
coin-operated
feeding tubes
containing
continued contamination,
credit card interest
compounded daily
our conscience
consoled
that we contribute
cookie money
and cancelled
our candy catalogues
across the continents
can you see
the children
content?

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 12/20/07 at 02:30 PM Much food for thought in just a few lines here David. I ride the buses here in Ottawa almost every day, and I do see a lot of long faces, especially going into work in the morning. As Leonard Cohen once wrote, "everybody knows the deal is rotten." |
Posted by Michelle Angelini on 12/20/07 at 10:21 PM Unfortunately true and most people don't realize it. Aargh...Chelle puts down the mirror to get less depressed... You've written my story here, at least in the last 2 lines of the first stanza.
