Flying, In Theory and Reality

by Sandy M. Humphrey

I no longer earth bound
Know the freedom of having flown
Leapt with faith into the blue
Fallen free at speed unknown

Lifted up into wispy clouds
Awed by silence as we drifted down
Guided chute knew its way to earth
Landed softly on safe ground

When the world in chaos reigns
Close my eyes and visualize
Falling forward into the blue
Free falling through open skies

Being lifted up in One strong hand
Awesome silence still calms me
Floating faithfully in heavens light
My inner peace is flying free

Author's Note: The gift I gave myself this year for my birthday was skydiving. It was my ulitmate let go..as a visualization meditation it is amazing as well. Would post a picture if I knew how.

I love you use of this as a meditative focus... "Close my eyes and visualize Falling forward into the blue"...wonderful, wonderful. I understand the power of this for clarity and inner calm... to float into that experience as living metaphor. This is the true gift and link between imagination and experience-- and what our mind can do to our physical, emotional being...age old intense metaphorical visualization based on actual experience. And put into fine verse as well. Really a gift that you could communicate this.

Sky diving nicely put to poetry Sandy. I'm not crazy about heights, so am happy to live vicariously through your actions and words. :o)

Wow! If I weren't afraid of heights, this poem might make me want to try skydiving. :) Great write!

I have never done this, but you make it sound amazing.
