email communication

by George Hoerner

i think of you
i know you think
of me too because
i get those email pieces
that you send to every
man woman and child
who you've ever known

i know you mean
well but do you
understand what it
really says...

this is what passes
for human
communication today
no 'how the hell are you'
or 'fuck you i don't care any more'
just tell me what you think
for once let me in
or is that asking too much
taking too big a chance

maybe we never knew
each other and maybe
we never will
but let's take a chance
let's just say
'screw it, here i am
this is what i am'
but maybe we don't
even know any more
who we are or
what we thought
we thought
but you know what
i won't give up
until i can no longer
talk

I really like that first stanza. For some reason, it made me laugh a little. Probably, because I've thought the same thing as well. Good stuff, man. Really good.

Excellent poem! It says it all about personal interaction and communication nowadays or the lack thereof...

ah, yes, mass communication and the almighty "forward" button. Somehow the ease to include everyone has pushed personal contact over the cliff. Loved your last 9 lines.

I totally empathize with your words, George. Mama said they'd be days like this, but she never warned me that there would be so many. If the world ever loved us or any individual, I think now is the time for both to put up or shut up, as is the saying.
