sunshine

by Bethany Lee

“You are my sunshine
My only sunshine,
You make me happy
When skies are grey.

YouÂ’ll never know, dear,
How much I love you,

Please don’t take my sunshine away…”

Nova sings this to me,
Fast and slowly,
We sing together
And upsidedown!
We tickle eachother on the bed,
Remaining memories of my mother,
Retaining
Bright lights
In sky blue eyes
So surprised
At the velocity

Of Love and TimeÂ…

Toward the end of Mom's life, I'd call her and sing Stevie Wonder's "I Just Called to Say I Love You." We'd sing it back and forth. Possibly every Mother and daughter has a special song between them. Beautiful words here.

there is something absolutely wonderful about the rhythm in this piece and it makes me weep with subject matter which quite shares in common with us all.

This piece makes me melt. There are two Nova's in my life, now two supernova's. Closing an emotional piece like this can be touchy but you have succeeded in the possibilities which are neverending...

sunshine
I just had to come back and say: you know when a poem is good for the way it resonates deep inside. Good enough to read again just to make sure you didn’t miss a thing. Then you read it again, allowing the essence of every word to permeate your entire being in that moment. Sitting back, I stared at the title and the entire poem came alive magnified through the glaze in my eyes. Softly, I whispered the title ‘sunshine’ to myself, fought back the tears of knowing, gently moving my head up and down in acknowledgement, smiled and said, yeah, that’s sunshine alright.
