When Fair October Finds Me

by Melissa Arel

When fair October finds me
I will be awaiting him,
With cups of steaming cider
And the crunching of
Autumn leaves beneath my feet.

We will walk hand-in-hand
While marvelling at the turning colors,
Then I'll run between the naked trees
Laughing at him trying to catch me
As the scarlet creeps into his cheeks.

The smell of pumpkin pies baking
And lit sugar plum candles
Will awaken our hunger for sweetness;
He will find his craving appeased
In my tasty Apple Crisp lips.

Then when the golden horizon melts
Into a sea of bare-armed branches,
We will warm our fingers and noses
Amid the toasty fireplace flames
And talk late into the molasses evening.

When fair October finds me,
I will be ready to fall in love
with him.

And run you did. Very far, too, if I may say so.

Well done Mel. I find any season is a reason for love to abound.

This takes the very small breezey promise of Autumn that we have today in So. Calif. and builds a warm fire of hope in my heart...love this!

What a heady mix you've brewed out of these "fair" ingredients! Love the recipe of sensualities...taste, texture, colors, "crunchy" sounds, "crispy" touch, all leading up to that "bare armed" "molasses evening". Yum.

October is one of my favorite months of the year...the title drew me in, and your words kept me. Nice!
