I Wait

by Maria Terezia Ferencz

as usual I wait
I have made peace
with pain
I rejoice in separation

I have learned to inhale the space between words
I exhale in whispers to myself
I can live on silence
Comfortably
I see with the dry eyes found between tears
my world parched of emotion
every sweep of my eyelid a scrape on my soul

I sleep in the hollow carved from a lover's last lie
curling up with his empty promises
I am hushed
in anticipation
I wait
I have learned to enjoy
this expectation
waiting for the next lover
to arrive

How eloquently and exquisitely sad.

Maria, so beautiful and sad. Maybe the next lover will be better, more truthful, sleep without lying, allow your words the freedom they need.

Maria, you put this poem together so eloquently. "I see with the dry eyes found between tears ..." ... this line especially poetic. Great poem. Thanks for sharing.
