Cats by Ann MillsGentle are the ways of cats:
Purring, rubbing, ever-loving,
Looking into your very soul,
Touching you with all they know.
Righteous are the ways of cats:
Arrogant, proud, their meows of loud,
Seeking from you what they want,
And knowing they'll get it from the front.
Evil are the ways of cats:
Stalking, growling, nightly prowling;
Watch the hair on their necks rise,
You see the power in their eyes.
Loving are the ways of cats:
Calm, serene, as if in dream,
They sleep upon your bed at night-
They treat you well if you treat them right.
Capricious are the ways of cats:
Mischievous, or devil-may-care,
Always getting in your hair.
Laughing whiskers tell you that
Nothing's as flexible as the cat.

Posted by Kathleen Wilson on 07/21/07 at 06:22 PM Funny, fun to read, and wise. Has overtones of William Blake's "Tyger" --here thethe "tyger" and "lamb" are in one (appropriate) animal. |
Posted by Quentin S Clingerman on 07/22/07 at 12:00 PM Humorous and quite insightful as well as descriptive. (My oldest daughter, who lives with her family upstairs, has six cats who run the gamut of cat dispositions I think, each very much an individual.) |
Posted by Glenn Currier on 08/01/07 at 04:06 PM You cleverly capture the mystery of the feline with wit and obvious familiarity with the species. Written when you were MUCH younger, the poem shows a great sense of form and the rhymes are fun... as they should be. Good work youngster. |
