The "L" Word by Glenn CurrierNot a poem about politics
or its close ally polemics
although both interest me
today I paid my centrist fee.
It's not even about sexuality
having no clear plurality
in the mix of hormones
and the click of pheromones.
It could be about the smiles
from doing it in the aisles
or the stressor decrease
form the endorphin release.
The obvious topic here
is the opposite of fear
the subject of a million songs
and four billion wrongs.
The hardest of all the words of "L"
is the skill you cannot tell
nor sing nor shout nor even rhyme
but made in sweet pausing of time. 07/20/2007 Author's Note: A challenge to you: a poem about your favorite "L" word(s). I dedicate this poem to one of the newest members of pathetic.org, my creative and gifted niece, Ann Mills.

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 07/20/07 at 11:18 PM What a fun poem to read Glenn, and tension breaker in light of a recent event. Brought a much needed smile to my face. Definitely an addition to my favourites! |
Posted by JD Clay on 07/24/07 at 03:04 AM This has what I call the Cupid effect. Your poem plays its intellectual magic on the readers mind and heart without ever uttering the word; the same way Cupid hits his mark without ever shooting his arrow. Cool stuff, Glenn, very cool!
I’d accept your challenge but I’m having trouble finding a rhyme for lollapalooza. Hey, don’t laugh!

Posted by Kathleen Wilson on 08/18/07 at 06:20 PM Love the progression of this, in the "sweet pausing of time". It's amazing it has such a wild abandon even with the rhymes, it's because they are unusual, teasing, and delightful. |
