The Couple At The First Table by Joan SerratelliWhen we walked into the grill that night
I could not help but notice
The couple seated at the first table
They were young and intense,
starring into each other's eyes
I don't think they noticed
anyone or anything around them
I could not take my eyes off them
When their dinner came, they hardly noticed
They just looked at each other
She started to cry
he reached out
to hold her hand
She hardly took a bite
He did the same
I wondered what was going on
why these two people were there
I felt their sadness and pain
it permiated the air
I wanted to talk to them;
to tell them that things would be ok
but when I turned around
they were gone- vanished
into thin air
I couldn't help wonder
where they went....
just another memory put back into it's place 05/22/2007 Author's Note: I originally wrote this as an essay. I decided to try to convert it into a poem.

| Posted by Kristina Woodhill on 05/23/07 at 12:42 AM A new direction for your poetry, Joan, and I like this description of your observations. You've created a scene of suspense, sadness, compassion, and an ending that wants for more, which I like. |

| Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 05/28/07 at 04:42 PM I agree with Greg; I see this as introspective, mirror like, especially as it's a memory. :o) |
