Careful Steps

by Alisa Js

How do I attempt to explain
These dual worlds I am compelled to live in,
Along this endless road I travel, rolling along
One side opulent, the other
Bleak and desolate,
Bordering on the edge of insanity's breath
How to manage
Not falling between
The skips of a heartbeat
Turning of a head,
The shadow that walks along side ...

This side I speak of
Who knows it, really
And why do so many rush to dismiss
The shadow there, lurking
Inside us all ...

We tip the glass
'Be merry and drink'
Swallowing as it were, our sorrows
But sorrows, do they swallow gently
Or rage against tormented souls
Tormented souls are we
Who run from daylight
Screaming,
On the inside ...

I like how this almost feels like it's being said from afar or something like well after the fact. i'm sure i'm not making any sense here. either way, i really liked it.

This is deep Alisa! Almost Jungian in it's explanation of our ability to know who we are in relationship to the world around us, unlike animals. Nice!!!!!!

I liked that you are willing to explore our different sides. Especially liked stanza two, "And why do so many rush to dismiss The shadow there, lurking Inside us all ..." This is such an important question, and how can we face facets of other people if we can't even face those in ourselves? Thanks for making me think.

Alisa, you've done it again ... put into poetic form how we have our feet in two worlds which run parallel to each other. Wonderfully done.
