Silent Speak Their Words

by Kristina Woodhill

the sponge cleans off
the spills of ink and crumbs
of words that bled
your able pen
I read your pain
and reveled in the loves
you found the roads you
tread your words that fed
my plate each dish a novel
bud within my mouth that
burst a blooming sweet or
sour some flavors forcing
tears while others swallowed
whole devoured as
I chewed carefully my tongue
tip whetted wet by
storied savorings as
mouth engulfed each
course each morsel
meant for whom I do not
know but I but I
I made my own fork
known and with
tines sharp and straight
I speared your pieces
hunger sated then
but now, oh now, my eyes
see only scraps
upon an empty table
napkin crumpled
on your chair no random
scribbles waiting
there for me to
whisk inside my purse
and later jealously
ingest – I raise the bell
to bring the help
but know that
you are gone

Author's Note: Several fine poets have left pathetic for other ventures and for various reasons over the past year or so. I miss their works and talent very much.

Me too. You know, it was weird to come back and realize that most of my friends from my original run are long gone. There's only a few left.

And this is great work, by the way.

Beautifully spoken. And the usual silence, and erasures tongued to verse is a relief, a comfort. These feelings so close to the surface "bloom" here. It is amazing how intimately we come to appreciate and learn from each other. (And what wonder that poets have such avid readers, poets themselves...it still amazes me.)A mini-earth we have here, that so re-enforces the urge to appreciate each other now, as deeply as possible and observe this time and the fragility (and resilience) of life itself. Thank you for this fine tribute to those we miss here, I feel so strongly too. Excellent and delicious metaphors.

Hi Kristina. Yes, these can be tough times, yet I try to remember that, if we want everything to remain as it is, it will be necessary for everything to change. Great write, thanks.

Yes, having been a member here for over 7 years, I've seen many come and go from this to me spiritual sactuary. Those names and faces I remember, I often wonder whatever became of them, and what they're doing now. Thanks for the well worded reminder Kristina.

The inevitable is not easily avoided - the consolation is that there have also been several fine poets to have joined pathetic during a similar period, an example of which is demonstrated on this very (appetising) page...a pleasure to consume and digest the poetry you have so elegantly egested here Kristina :)

Indeed. You've put words to what I've often felt but have never been able to express. Eloquent.
