Master Of The Grapevine

by Chris Sorrenti

once more your fruit imprinted
each a victory for us all
modern mythology
rising into resonant thunder
another bountiful season
fading into endless chord
a cocoon you’ve come to know as home

no longer mystery
the deciduous cycle
that makes you what we all can be
Poetry’s warrior
vibrating with orders from above

retool - reshape - rearm
put new rabbits into the hat
creative spring waiting patiently
beneath the exploding snow
as we sit anxiously on the sidelines
ready to cheer

while flocks of rumors land and line
your branches deceptively barren
nonbelievers passing judgment
stinging acid years before
now burn themselves to inconsequence
upon your armor
thickened with each new poem

and if someday the children question
if they seek then they shall find
for we shall tell them a tale of fire and flood
of the master of the grapevine

Excellent use of the so productive, long lived, ever cycling grape vine. "retool - reshape - rearm" Yes! each year a new beginning, generally stronger than the one before. Each stanza gets stronger to me in this. Thank you!

A most interesting poem, Chris. Of all the times, today comes as a curious time to find it. (Too much background of circumstances to explain, here, so I will leave it at — wow! —indeed the children's center will be reading this tonight. Sharp minds that they are.) Tré bién! —Jill

I really enjoyed this one, and will re-read again for significances I may have missed, but it speaks to me of our process in writing poetry a great deal. In an original way.

I enjoyed reading this. A cycle of writing, and expressing, and with wisdom our sense of expression changes. In that, giving each and every one of us the power to blossom into our own. That's what I took from it at least:)

Well, I read this as having significance not only regarding the creative process, but also in the motivation behind it's employment. I particularly enjoyed the penultimate stanza, which offfered a variety of interpretations, dependant upon the reader's preferred associations. Full-bodied stuff Chris.

Each stanza can be a separate poem, yet they all connect together (although my tired brain hasn't figured out the connection yet; it will). I love this so much - too many good lines in it. Your title reels me in, Chris, but your words pull me through the stanzas.
