In the Speaking

by Kristina Woodhill

And the beauty of your name
is in the speaking
three letters that step lightly
off the tongue
they claim the air
and brush my mind so sweetly
and I turn to seek the source
and hear again

And the beauty of your name
is in the giving
from two hearts wed that
chose to beat as one
their gift of love
your life - your name
their progeny and promise
shone from them like
that great Montana sun

And the beauty of your name
is in the meaning
from the Hebrew you were truly
“God’'s great gift”
paired with your middle name
“above all, beauty”
there is no doubt
about your cherished state

And the beauty of your name
is in believing
the claiming of its attributes
by you
for when you can accept these
simple blessings
you become and honor
what was given you

Sweetest tribute in the reading... truly songful and so dear with the richness of combining the etymological with personal roots and realization-- that bring into clear light the love of a daughter for a beautiful mother.

A loving tribute and how wonderful to recognize the value of speaking another's name and the meaning of a name...and how it fits the person so well...you are amazing in the gift of love and poetry. smh

What an amazing woman your mother must be, and an extremely talented daughter you absolutely are!

Lovely, lovely, Kristina. Your final stanza is just perfection to this piece. Kipling wrote, "If I were damned of body and soul, I know whose prayers would make me whole, Mother o'mine, O mother o'mine!" Excellent write. Thanks.

This is just beautiful, Kristina! I believe a person's name says a lot about them and influences how they are in life. Great job!

Beautiful tribute Kristina. Makes me feel proud of my own mother, who turns 70 on Tuesday.
