Butch Flaherty and the Tapdance Kid
by Dave Fitzgerald"Ladies and Gentlemen.
Prepare to be amazed.
You're about to witness
The newest dancing craze.
You will see more sparks
Than on the National Grid,
Please welcome Butch Flaherty
And The Tapdance Kid!"
Butch and The Kid
Came out with broad smiles.
Excited to be showing off
Their new dancing styles.
The like had never been tried
By another dancing band,
They wore gloves on their feet
And tap shoes on their hands.
All of a sudden
It was the talk of the town,
About these new hoofers
Who danced upside-down.
They thought that their success
Would forever linger,
Until the perfomance
Where The Kid broke a finger.
The Kids convalescence
Seemed to take an age,
And twenty years later
They still weren't on stage.
There was not a tap shoe
A shoe maker could cobble
For a right-handed dancer
With a left-handed hobble.
So Flaherty and Tapdance
Had to call it a day.
For ground-breaking dancers
They had to make way.
But West End and Broadway
Remembered their names,
And had them inducted
To the Dance Hall of Fame.
A show was cried out for
When the announcement was made.
So Butch and Tapdance
Hoofed on one final stage...
And all of a sudden
They were the talk of the town,
Those two old hoofers
Who danced upside-down.
